Britain's shopping passions

Brits spend over £73 billion a year on their passions. In 2018, sports and fitness have been key trends.

British fashion has also seen a resurgence. Self expressionism, individuality and inspiration are the go-to requirements when it comes to making a new fashion purchase today - and the buying power of millennials is on the rise.

We investigate what's driving UK passions.

Cycling

Cycling has seen an enormous boost from events including the Tour de France, which kicked off in July. The tour inspired the sale of one bicycle every minute while it was on our screens.

Winter is a popular time for parts, as Brits with fancier two wheelers put accessories on their Christmas lists. The changes of season in May and October also herald extra attention for bikes as more new lights and tyres are required.

Running

Getting out for a jog is one of the oldest New Year's resolutions.

More people are motivated to hit the road in January than any other month, with accessories and trainers best sellers for eBay traders.

Televised athletics events in the summer and the famous London Marathon, also attract smaller surges.

Fashion

Individuality, expressionism...fashion is still one of our favourite ways to express ourselves

Christmas party season is still our number one when it comes to splashing out on new clothing and accessories - and fashion makes the perfect gift too.

We also like to shop when the sun comes out - with big peaks for a sunny spring and a sweltering August.
